Let me start by saying, me and baby are just fine. We are under the care of a very caring and thorough doctor.
This morning I had my 36 week appointment where we would check on baby's progress as well as receive my test results from my glucose test and 24 hour urine collection.
Baby's heart rate is strong and steady, I am measuring well, and my weight is still within the "healthy" range. After receiving all the good news I was told the bad news. In fact I do have gestational diabetes and need to go to the hospital for 24 hour observation as well as receive my diet plan.
I left the doctor's office and went home to pack my hospital bag needing to be back by 1 pm. I immediately called Mike and told him I needed to go to the hospital to be monitored for 24 hours. I think I nearly gave the poor man a heart attack when I told him I needed to go to the hospital. After explaining what happened at the doctor's office he was more at ease.
I got home and tried to start packing. All I could think about was, what do I really need to bring? What if I go into labor while being in the hospital? Just when I needed to be reined in Mike came home and helped me focus on packing an overnight bag.
I got in the car, checked into the hospital and went to labor and delivery. Labor and delivery had me complete my twice weekly non stress test and then sent me to mother baby unit across the hall.
My nurse Georgia greeted me with a huge smile and showed me to my room.
I hung out in my room for a while till I had my first consult with a nutritionist. She was very informative and helped break things down for me and explained how many carbs I can have at every meal and snack.
Mike and I had a scheduled childbirth class tonight, so with permission from the hospital staff we were still able to go. (More on that class at another time)
Oh and if you are wondering how big and round I have gotten take a look at this beauty. All I can say is wow!

Being in the hospital and being poked every few hours is draining to say the least. But we are both trying to keep our spirits up.

In the morning I get to have more blood drawn and I get to hear the plan of attack for combating my diabetes. Until then my friends, this girl is going to try and get her beauty sleep.
